GLOOLABS ANNOUNCES OPEN PLATFORM TECHNOLOGY TO FACILITATE DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITAL CONVERGENCE APPLICATIONS New GLOO Technology Helps Developers Meet Consumer Demand for Wireless,Interconnected Digital Devices San Francisco CA, January 7, 2003 - GLOOLABS, a company that develops and licenses open platform, digital convergence technologies, today announced GLOO technology, which gives developers the low-cost tools they need to create the smart, interconnected applications of the future. It also shifts the development paradigm from small, in-house teams to the much larger online developer community. Because of its open systems approach and affordable pricing, GLOO enables thousands of developers to create viable consumer electronics applications. "Real game-changing innovation is driven by small, fast-moving players who are given the development platform they need to create portable, smart, interactive applications and devices," said Dan Lovy, president of GLOOLABS. "That's where we come in. The GLOO platform gives developers the tools they need to go crazy with creative applications that unchain consumers from their desktop computers." More
Development Power to More Developers Application developers will also appreciate the open APIs and protocols that GLOO supports, which will make it easy to modify and post applications for others to use. GLOO-enabled applications can link networked devices designed for peer-to-peer, media rich applications. GLOO also features low-cost processor memory, 100 percent upgradeable firmware, wireless interface and network-distributed software architecture. First on the Market: Macsense's HomePod Moves Music The first GLOO-enabled hardware delivered to the market place will be Macsense's HomePod, which lets Macintosh and PC users listen to their favorite music or other MP3 files in the shower, the garden, workout room or anywhere else in the house. HomePod is scheduled to ship in March, with a suggested retail price of $199. Developers who register with GLOOLABS and purchase HomePod will be able to begin application development immediately. HomePod features an 802.11b wireless network interface, stereo line and headphone outputs, LCD display and control buttons and a USB port. The GLOO operating system works for peer-to-peer network services, is 100 percent Java-based, runs on top of real-time embedded OS and Java Virtual Machine and will support industry standard peer-to-peer initiatives such as UPnP, Jini and Rendezvous.
