GLOONET™ PLATFORM TO POWER NORMSOFT STREAMING MUSIC SERVICE
PALO ALTO, California, March 11, 2005 - GlooLabs, Inc. today announced that NormSoft has licensed the GlooNet™ media platform to power "tunesonthefly", an innovative, new service that allows mobile users to listen to their home music collection by streaming it to their Palm OS powered devices. The service, which will be launched in a few weeks, will be hosted by NormSoft and powered by GlooLabs' GlooNet technology. It will be the first commercial service to stream personal music stored on multiple Windows, Mac and Linux computers to a mobile device.
Subscribers of the service will be able to navigate their entire music collection through a browser and listen to their favorite songs using the award winning Pocket Tunes Deluxe application.
"We are pleased that NormSoft has chosen our GlooNet platform to generate new revenue opportunities by creating exciting new experiences for their users," said David Arfin, CEO of GlooLabs. "This is an important step in digital convergence. Instead of replicating content onto mobile devices, or uploading to third party servers, users can now leverage the power of the network and of mobile devices to make their personal media available whenever and wherever they are."
"Using GlooNet and Pocket Tunes, users can turn their Treo™ phone into a wireless MP3 player with access to all of their music while on the go," explained Nate Saal, Director of Product Development for GlooLabs. "With access to your entire music collection, you don't have to make the tough decision of what stays and what goes."
Normsoft's "Tunesonthefly" service will allow users to browse their music collections and playlists stored on one or more home computers. The selected music can be streamed to any Palm-Powered handheld device with WiFi capabilities or mobile data services. The service can also be used to stream music from PC to PC over a broadband network. Handheld users will have access to their entire music collection wherever they may be, without requiring significant memory on the device. The service includes a smart-detect feature that automatically transcodes music files stored on the home computer to an appropriate bit-rate based on the available network bandwidth.
"We selected the GlooNet platform because it offers unprecedented flexibility for users of Pocket Tunes Deluxe to access their personal music collections," said Mark Belliveau, director of business relations at NormSoft. "The GlooNet software solution is easy for the end-user to set up and enjoy their music on the go."
